Future South is developing a number of projects and is also supporting existing projects in the South to work towards a low carbon economy that meet our priorities and expected outcomes. These include projects from local authorities, SMEs, and universities and colleges in the South.
Future South created the Technology and Innovation cluster, Greentech South, which is the first Energy and Environment Sector Cluster in the UK to achieve Bronze accreditation under the EU Cluster Excellence Programme.
More than 100 Members have joined the cluster after seeing what we have delivered and how we can support their business growth. To find out more and how your business can benefit visit: www.greentechsouth.com
Our 5 year Energy Strategy is based upon independent research commissioned by Future South and PUSH (the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire) and has been combined with key economic data commissioned by Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.
Our strategy has produced a Business Case and project criteria to identify the key low carbon energy priorities and opportunities for LEP and EU spend over the next five years. This will bring;
- £2.38 billion new investment into the Region
- 2,000 new sustainable jobs – many in rural communities
- At least an 8% Carbon saving
- The creation of a pipeline of renewable energy projects that will generate 10% of the region’s energy
- Support for a delivery vehicle to drive renewable and low carbon energy production in the Solent with a retention of spending in the Solent economy
A Project Ambassador and Steering Group have been appointed and projects are now moving from the drawing board to delivery phase.
Green Growth Grants and Loan Programme
This programme provides a focused range of interventions to support targeted SMEs in the low carbon economy. It brings together the expertise of the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce with three universities and public sector partners to deliver a range of business services to accelerate SME growth, services which are unlikely to be provided by the market alone.
